Build the state-and-entity record
Record the transaction in two columns rather than treating “Kansas City” as one market. The useful record identifies where you were during the transaction, the storefront or website shown, the contracting entity, the servicing entity, each physical address, license claims, the application channel, and any governing-law statement.
| Record Item | Kansas Record | Missouri Record |
|---|---|---|
| Borrower location | Note whether you were physically in Kansas when you applied, accepted, or received funds. | Note any Missouri location connected with the same transaction. |
| Storefront or website identity | Record a Kansas City, Kansas address, the business name displayed, and the entity named in Kansas-facing materials. | Record a Kansas City, Missouri address, the business name displayed, and the entity named in Missouri-facing materials. |
| Contracting and servicing entities | Enter the legal entity named as lender and any separate entity that collects payments or services the account. | Enter those entities separately when the agreement, payment page, or notices name Missouri-connected businesses. |
| License and address claims | Save the stated Kansas license claim and physical address. | Save the stated Missouri license claim and physical address. |
| Online terms | Keep the application path, disclosures, and any term naming Kansas. | Keep the application path, disclosures, and any term naming Missouri. |
| Governing-law statement | Copy any agreement language that names Kansas law. | Copy any agreement language that names Missouri law or another state. |
Route aligned and conflicting records differently
State identity and entity identity come first. A Kansas City, Kansas borrower has a clearer Kansas route only when the lender identity, address, license claim, transaction channel, and documents point in the same direction.
- When the record aligns with Kansas, match the named lender entity to Kansas Office of the State Bank Commissioner records and use the Kansas Office of the Attorney General Consumer Protection Division for a consumer complaint within its scope.
- When the record aligns with Missouri, investigate the provider or office through Missouri official financial-regulator records rather than treating the Kansas City metro label as a Kansas connection.
- For an online offer, save the advertisement, application screens, agreement, disclosures, lender identity, servicing identity, addresses, license claims, and governing-law statement before sending bank credentials.
- When the advertisement, agreement, regulator records, or payment collector identify different entities or states, preserve the conflict and seek regulator guidance or qualified legal help instead of selecting a state route from the city name alone.
- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau accepts complaints about covered financial products and services, including payday-lending problems; Kansas consumers also have a complaint channel through the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division.
